We held our floral retreat at Chaffeymoor Grange in Dorset in March,
With its luxurious bedrooms beautiful panelled oak room and dining room we had everything we needed for a country retreat.
The atmosphere was relaxed from the start and a great way to connect with other like minded souls and learn at the same time.
We were joined by guest tutors David Jones and Chikae Howland.
After settling in to our rooms we held a class on free form bridal bouquets, Chikae showed us her method of threading the flowers through her fingers to create that organised chaos feel, she also talked us through her process for combining colour and texture.
We continued with a class on natural cascade bouquets using an armature, which were modelled for us by beautiful Hebe and captured on film by Chikae who also took some stunning head shots of our attendees.
Beautiful silk ribbon from Alison at www.bordercottageflowers.co.uk who gave us a short talk on the natural dyes she uses.
We wound down with drinks and canapés followed by a delicious supper.
We began the day with an early morning stroll around nearby Stourhead garden then back for a class with master of the large scale David Jones.
David showed us some invaluable techniques for working on large scale designs without the use of foam we created 2 large columns using chicken wire and tubes.
After lunch we worked on large scale table decoration making tripods and mossed bowls.
We dressed the dining room table ready for dinner before some free time ahead of the evening.
Chaffeymoor provided the perfect atmosphere to relax after our endeavours and chat drink and nibble and our meals provided by owner Linsey were delicious!
Day 3 saw us decamp to Yarlington house for a workshop on marquees and tipis. James Dickson from award winning Abbas marquess gave us a talk on best practice for working within these structures with lots of demonstrations for installing suspended displays and tips on working with marquee companies.
We then installed 3 hanging designs plus a table canopy and completed the look with our centrepieces from David’s class.
We loved this retreat and can’t wait to return to Chaffeymoor for another one next year!
