The Floral Escape

Hellens manor garden

The Floral Escape is a place to share knowledge in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. A place to collaborate with others to produce something truly beautiful and a place to be inspired and excited about your own creativity.

Learning in a relaxed atmosphere with other like minded people enables you to design with space to develop your personal style. The Floral Escape gives you time to absorb information and technique without work pressure.

There are no strict finish times and although we work on set pieces we like the design process to evolve with input from everyone.

Hellens manor is an ancient place where watch-tower, monastery, fortified manor and farmhouses, Tythe Barns and Georgian stables have served their purposes in turn through the millenium. The knot and cloister gardens, a yew labyrinth, a short woodland and pond walk all contribute to a magical environment that entrances every coming visitor.

.We feel imagery is a vital element of our courses and only work with the best. Past escapes have been captured beautifully by   Emma Pilkington  and Katie Spicer and to capture the magic this year we are delighted to be joined by fine art photographer Naomi Kenton, Naomi’s style is airy and dreamy and her portfolio boasts both editorial  and wedding photography You can see more of Naomi’s work on her website   http://www.naomikenton.com/?page_id=604

Day 1 – arrivals from 2pm

We’ll be staying in the newly converted Georgian stables which has lovely simple rooms and a great communal/dining area.

After a cup of tea and a slice of cake we’ll have  a private tour of the Manor before a informal discussion on  wedding and event flowers – bring all your ideas and questions!

Supper is informal, just delicious home made food to give you all the energy you need for the days ahead!  The kitchen is open to all so you can make a cuppa anytime and explore the snacks cupboard too!

Day 2 – Large scale entrances & Low level compositions.

We’ll work as a team to create a magical installation. You’ll gather some top tips and new techniques for large structures we’ll discuss the art of grouping and key placement as well as the practicalities and logistics.  After Lunch we’ll be designing low level pieces for a beautiful table scape.

We don’t have a set time to finish but we usually wind down after a bit of afternoon tea so you have time to take pictures of your work or relax before supper.

Day 3 – Installation in the Great Barn & Bridal bouquet & Accesories – Styled photoshoot with Naomi Kenton

Every floral escape is unique. Much time and thought goes into the designs that we plan and we have  a brand new idea for our installation in the Great barn which we’ll construct together.

After our team build the focus is on individual work again designing and constructing a beautiful foam free cascade and floral hair piece.

After lunch we’ll look at styling and and capturing your work with a photoshoot. You’ll be encouraged to seek out some of the  beautiful nooks and crannies around the manor and gardens, the wisteria bench, lily pond, bluebell wood and orchard. Not forgetting the rather photogenic Donkeys -Blossom and Plum!

We’ll say our good byes over afternoon tea and cake (the cake is now legendary )

Moira Third The Highland florist

‘Firstly, many many thanks to you and your team for your hard work, energy and enthusiasm to make Hellens an inspirational time for us.

Emma and I learnt so much from your boundless knowledge and wisdom and it was a joy to work with glorious flower varieties that we don’t often get the opportunity to use. The bouquets and table decs are still going strong and the tulips are amazingly strong!
Just completed a 5day event with flower change outs to the dining room every day,  plus large entrance hall displays – I’m so glad I was under your guidance last week!!!! Plus your “driving home ‘ about costings – invaluable!

Susan Carroll & Emma Joy

‘I had a wonderful time on the course and learnt a lot.Working as a team at the beginning was good as it made sure we got to know each other. The venue also helped with this, as we all had plenty of time to chat and share knowledge and experiences. This helped with creating the right environment to learn. There was such a friendly atmosphere.’

Rachel Flowers  – March hare wedding and event design
