In April we held 2 days of discussion and demonstration on eco floristry.
Going green was a not for profit event to raise awareness on the issues surrounding floral foam and plastics used in the floral industry.
Over 60 florists and growers attended all keen to find greener alternatives.
We passed on the results from our research and correspondence with key organisations within the industry. Along with some staggering statistics regarding the amount of material going to landfall.
We showed samples of compostable cellophane, wire and bases, thanks to Helen Chambers for her input and knowledge of products available. Thanks to Opiflor for sending over samples of their biodegradable products https://uk.opiflor.com/opiflor-web/st/Home
We also tried out the flora guppy, https://www.floraguppy.com/about
The flora guppy replaces chicken wire for small scale arrangements and bouquets.
As well as discussion we demonstrated a foam free urn design, wall installation and bridal bouquet with the majority of flowers coming from local growers.
The road to a greener floral industry is about education and information both for florists and the general public.
We hope to show more florists the benefits of going foam free for their business with inspiring and practical designs.
